The necessity has been realized that children friendly atmosphere is need to the Children who were abused and adversely affected in many ways. And the children are able to express their ideas and opinions oppressed earlier and to spend the daytime with a relaxation happily there. At the same time normal children are able to experience an alternative learning situation (except their schools and the school syllabus) without thrust and strains in the Centre. It is needed that the suggested alternative learning situation in the Centre has to be a good model and a venue of joyful learning.
Due to the necessity and need, with the contribution and participation of Local NGOO, with the facilitation of Government institutions and with the financing of the CIDA/ FIT – Child Rights Project, the Centre for Children’s Happiness which is getting special consultancy from psychiatric specialists and counsellors has been inaugurated in Jaffna. The Centre’s target group is Children.
The Basic structure of the Centre
There are different kinds of choices according to the wishes of the children to spend the days useful
i. Children Library
ii. Indoor games
iii. Outdoor sports/ games and sports equipments
iv. Drawing/ Art tools as free issues
v. Computers with software having programmes of knowledge feeding and skills feeding games
vi. Arrangements for interpersonal & group conversation in peaceful and pleasant spots in the Centre.
vii. TV Room & Video sets
