The Mead Scholarships and Fellowships program

University of the Arts London is accepting applications for Mead scholarships & fellowships program in the fields of art, design, fashion and media. The objective of Mead Scholarships and Fellowships aim to help students and recent graduates extend and develop their practice, expertise, interests and knowledge in one of three areas: creative practice, academic or post doctoral research, or social enterprise. They are designed to support recipients in the pursuit of excellence in fields which cannot easily be accommodated in a traditional academic or commercial environment.
The Mead Scholarship will provide up to three awards of up to £2,500 each for undergraduate students who have already exhibited a high level of creative potential and excellence in practice, and have one further year of study at UAL following receipt of the grant, thus allowing them the summer period before entering their final year of study to develop a body of research and/or practice at a crucial time.
The Mead Fellowship will provide up to two awards of up to £10,000 each to new and recent graduates, allowing them the time and flexibility to develop a body of research and/or practice after their graduation.

  • Travel and related costs
  • Books, publications and materials
  • Professional development and training
  • Specialist expertise and advice
  • Language-related costs (e.g., translation services)
  • Workspace/studio rental(For fellowship only)
  • Subsistence allowances(For fellowship only)
Eligibility & Criteria-
  • Mead Scholarship
  1. UAL BA (Hons) 2nd year students at time of application
  2. All candidates must have completed their 2nd years by the time of undertaking the Scholarship
  • Mead Fellowship
  1. UAL BA/BSc (Hons) 3rd year students at time of application
  2. UAL MA/MSc postgraduates at time of application
  3. PhD students
  4. All candidates must have graduated by the time of undertaking the Fellowship
  • Applications will be open to individuals irrespective of their nationality or country of residence. Please note that recipients of the AHRC Scholarships are not eligible to apply, due to the terms and conditions set out by AHRC.
